well, i saw it on a fansub, and... the story is beautiful... but the ending is too much realistic for my taste

what i saw in cosmonaut is that takaki says something like "when did i started writting messages that i wouldnt send", and also during the song at the end it is shown how both stop sending and reciving mail, so it kind of tell us "they slowly stopped talking to each other", just as normal people stop talking to people that they no longer see... its sad... very sad and too realistic for my taste (yeah, i prefer all those "happy fantastic ending" and "they lived happily thereafter" XD)

well i wanted to pinpoint that two little details that might help to " tie the loose end here". it is not a great explanation but i belive this anime is the "art and beauty of the sad reality", as an artist i understand it, but as a otaku... it is not my taste

I watched it yesturday and i was so absorbed in the movie. I've watched the other movie of Makino Shinkai but this one was just the Best one. The landscape was so beautiful they really did an awesome job! the soundtrack by Tenmon like almost every makoto movie was awesome as well. The ending song let me felt some dramatic, sadness and beautiful feeling.I had cry in the end(T_T). I think the story in general is great, good "way" of thinking about life an all those events who happen randomly in everyone's life. I think... Akari and Takaki were two great character even if we didn't saw akari that much after the first chapter of the story...(that was a thing i didn't like ). Konoe was also an important character in this story, she was one who think in another point of view of Takaki and Akari's "little" world. Finally, in the end i was a little bit frustred that these two weren't together... but it seem that is the way of thinking that mr Shinkai want to show to us." Life isn't perfect...time and space change our dream...we can live in the past... life "got to" goes on."(life must goes on).

Anyway, I absolutly love this movie ^^

I have just seen the fansub version. I have to say, I thought it was a sad ending. Abrupt, incomplete and unsatisfying. It was visually stunning however, but it did not make my heart float as well. Like the person above said..

<blockquote cite="I would have prefered Takaki and Akari to end together. After all, life’s enough hard to point realities of our world. I was really rather looking to that movie for an temp. escape (of how could things might have been in a more wonderful world of our).">

..I am left wondering how Akari and Takaki split, after being seemingly in love with each other? Oh well... I just wish it was a happy ending.

well... mmh I really hope the story won't be so sad (it seems it will be anyway). Reminds me bad things. I would have prefered Takaki and Akari to end together. After all, life's enough hard to point realities of our world. I was really rather looking to that movie for an temp. escape (of how could things might have been in a more wonderful world of our). We'll see then...
That aside, I don't really know if it's worse or not to have such a love experience (and learn from it) but it can be quite hard to move on (especially with a long relationship).
Nice overwiew btw.

i already saw it and im still picking up my jaw from the floor, i thought that the last one (beyond the clouds...) was beautiful but this is poetry in motion, yes the ending IS abrupt, and the story has loose ends and plotholes everywhere but the art is SOOOO beautiful that you dont care im seeing it again tomorrow, highly recomended to anyone whit two eyes (even one is good too)

Nice review. I'm sure you managed to get the main parts of the story right. I'm just wondering about that last episode, whether Akari and Takaki actually do *almost* see each other. Probably it's for the best if they don't, because, knowing their attraction for each other, it'd probably interrupt all the plans they've made since parting. And I agree with Kim Carl, it's just like in reality - fairytale endings don't happen all that often. Especially not in a film that tries to show the effect of distance on a relationship :/ isn't it beautiful?
