AOU 2007: Arcade Games Galore

My boss came to me on Thursday and asked, “Do you like games?” Well, yes of course! Otherwise, I wouldn’t be interning in a game company like this! However, what he meant was that he was going to give me a ticket to the All Nippon Amusement Machine Operators’ Union Expo 2007, aka AOU 2007. I didn’t know what to expect, but gladly accepted his goodwill (or, perhaps, no one from the company wanted to go there anyway). What ensued was an enjoyable trip filled with the latest in the Japanese arcade gaming world.

Random Bits #3: Camera Test Run and Sankuri 34 Report

I have just acquired a Canon EOS KISS Digital N (known as the Digital Rebel XT in the US) from Akihabara today after a long trek to Sankuri 34. (A picture of the loots available below.) Chiu, Makie, and Iinchou gets transfered to a virtual space filled with water and fish. Donning Mahou Shoujo Biblion costumes, they wage electronic warfare with Chachamaru.

Sunshine Creation 34 Window Shopping List

Toloveru 38: Eve + Yuri = Yami-chan = Delicious

As you might know, Cardcaptor is a fanboy of the stylish loli by the name Eve of the Black Cat fame. Now that Yabuki Kentarou decides to include her in the supreme fanservice extraordinaire manga Toloveru, Cardcaptor is overjoyed beyond words. Moreover, Yabuki-sensei gives her a slight hint of Yuri this time. What more can this poor man ask for?!?

A Thought on Dakimakura Covers

The most valued treasures in my otaku collection are Nanoha and Fate dakimakura covers on sale in Comiket 70. Recently, I impulse bought a dakimakura cover featuring Primula that comes with Dengeki Hime Navel Special (NSFW), and it was delivered to me yesterday via DHL. So, I swapped Fate-chan out of my body pillow to try hugging Rim-chan to sleep last night. It turns out that the Nanoha cover is my favourite after all eventhough the one with Rim-chan is so much more faptastic. (NSFW)

Moe in the 90’s: PASSION, FRIENDSHIP, LOVE, and GIANT ROBOTS!

Watching Martian Successor Nadesico, I made a striking discovery. The first users of the word “moe” must be Super Robot otaku!

Here are some evidences. In Episode 2 of Nadesico, Daigouji Gai, one of the prominent animated otaku, describe a certain anime show as:

「全３９はモエモエっす！」
“All 39 episodes are so moemoe!”

Mahou Sensei Negima 153: Go! Negi-bouzu!

In every shounen manga/anime/game that involves a motley crew of do-gooders storming a villain’s hideout, there definitely are scenes in which the hero’s friends would stay behind to hold care of enemies, saying cheesy lines like “Leave this to me” and allowing the main guy to proceed, This is basically what happen in this chapter.

Twintail Character Database

A fellow named KATIE has created a web site TwinTailSanctuary that keeps a list of all female characters donning pigtails from anime, manga, and games. According to the site, there are at least 538 characters with this moe-zokusei. You can take a look at the list here: http://www.twintailsanctuary.net/twintail.html. Pretty impressive IMHO.

The guy seems to be obsessed with blonde twintails, in particular Fate Testarossa, and he also loves Feena-sama. (Pretty much the same taste as mine.) As for me, Emelenzia Beatrix Rudiger recently stole the position of favourite twintail girl from Fate.

By the way, according to the Japanese wikipedia, the word twintail is actually originated from otakus. However, seeing that many of the articles regarding anime fandom there lack source materials, I still wonder if this is entirely true.

This discovery prompted me to googled for some more databases of certain types of characters. Here are what I came up with before I became bored:
